In Minnesota all children are required to complete Early Childhood Screening before they enter Kindergarten. Screening is available for all 3-5 year olds; it is best to have your child screened between 3 and 4 years of age. The purpose of the screening is to provide parents with a comprehensive view of the child s health and development. Screening also helps a school district identify children who may benefit from district and community resources available that help in their child s development.

Early Childhood Screening includes the following components: hearing, vision, height, weight, development, immunization review, and nutritional assessment. The vision screening helps detect potential eye problems but is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam. Professionals, school staff, and volunteers will be present at the screening to guide you and your child through each component. This screening supports children s readiness for Kindergarten and promotes positive child health and development outcomes. Every effort is made to make this a fun and positive experience
